Laser Skin Resurfacing and Other Laser Procedures

The development of lasers for scientific purposes have done wonders to the medical world, as well as to the lives of many people. Laser surgery has saved or helped countless lives from various ailments, and sometimes it is the only way to treat or cure a patient. Apart from this amazing contribution, lasers have also revolutionized cosmetic procedures.

Laser cosmetic procedures are one way both men and women can look younger through a rather non-invasive method. What’s more is that the procedures (as there are several kinds) can be done in an hour or less, and usually you will see the results quickly and the healing time is definitely not as long as a real cosmetic or plastic surgery procedure!

Here is a list of some of the laser cosmetic procedures that can be done to both men and women, discussing what areas they target, and how this can help the quest towards younger looking skin.

Laser Hair Removal: This may not be as important for men as it is for women, but laser hair removal can be a life save when it comes to unwanted hair! Some younger women use this treatment for areas like their underarms, bikini line, legs, and so on. As women age and lose estrogen levels, however, other areas of the body may start developing unwanted and thick hair as well. Laser hair removal can get rid of the hair on your upper lip, under your chin, on your belly, on your back, and anywhere else where it may appear. Sessions are usually spaced between four to six weeks with an average of six sessions to completely remove the hair for good!

Photodynamic Therapy:
Also known as PDT, this procedure reduces the appearance of freckles, age spots, skin redness or discolorations of complexion, and it also improves the overall texture of the skin. What happens is that a solution which makes the skin more sensitive or susceptible to light (in this case the laser) is applied and left on for thirty minutes. Then the laser is applied onto the areas where the treatment is needed. Sessions are very quick and very little if any pain is felt. Plus, recovery is very quick! It's a very effective way of smoothening out skin complexion, making you look younger.

Ablative Laser Resurfacing: A very intense laser treatment in which a laser is applied to create a wound on your skin. As this wound heals, the wrinkles disappear or do not reform. This type of laser treatment does take a while in both the treatment and healing processes. However, it is amazing for getting rid of deep wrinkles, and rejuvenating skin that was badly or roughly damaged by the sun during a person's younger years.

Fractional Laser Rejuvenation:
Great for wrinkles, age spots, and skin discoloration. Recovery time is very quick!

Intense Pulsed Light: Though not a laser, the intense light penetrates deep into the skin, reducing dark spots and improving texture. It has been known to soften and smoothen the complexion, while making pores smaller.

Non-ablative Laser Treatment:
A very light (in fact the most light) procedure in terms of intensity. This is because it is geared towards the very first signs of skin aging. Usually, women with fine lines, small freckles or dark spots, and a complexion that is just beginning to become rough use this treatment.
