Botox Treatment

Botox, the name has been immortalized by Hollywood stars, super models, the rich, the elite, and those obsessed with eternal youth. This ever popular treatment for wrinkles gained its world wide success for being the secret of some of the most famous faces in the world. But what exactly is Botox treatment?

The treatment itself is an injection, usually to the forehead though other areas of the face may also be targeted. The injection consists of the Botilinum Toxin Type A, which is actually one of the most powerful toxins in the world, and can kill a human being, commonly through food poisoning. When prepared for dermatological purposes, however, the results can be quite dramatic and youth inspiring..

What Botox treatment does is that it paralyzes the targeted muscle so that the muscle does not move. When this happens, the wrinkles that are created by that muscle or through the movement of the muscle or through loss of muscle elasticity disappear. The final result is a smooth, wrinkle free area of the face, making the patient look younger and more flawless.

Botox treatment should only be done by a doctor who is licensed to administer the treatment. This is very important to note. Not all dermatologists or doctors have license to give Botox, so make sure that the doctor you are visiting does have this license. It is one of the ways you can make sure that you are getting good quality treatment, and it will lessen your chances of having any adverse side effects.

Once a treatment is done, patients can notice almost immediate effects. The best effects of Botox treatment, however, will be seen a few days after the injecting. This treatment can last for up to four months, sometimes longer for some. At the end of the four months, the toxin loses its potency and the muscle goes back to its original state. This also means that the wrinkles will come back. Because of this “wearing off”, patients tend to go back every few months for re-injection.

It has been noted that patients that avail of continuous Botox treatments, meaning going back for more injections at the end of every effective period start to enjoy longer periods of effectivity after about one year. That is more or less four injections in one year, if timed at once every four months. By the following year, patients will not have to go back for injections as often because of the longer effectivity. This longer effective period is attributed to the fact that as Botilinum is applied, the muscle becomes thinner and thinner, and as a result the wrinkles will stay away.

Because of its success rate (works for just about anyone), Botox treatment is pretty pricey. The cheapest treatments range from $200 to around $500 to $800 depending on how skilled your surgeon is. Most people, however, say that it is well worth it!
